This course is designed to assist secondary teachers who are teaching multiple subjects in special settings to meet NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher requirements. The online class is facilitated with an instructor over five weeks to build their content knowledge and repertoire of effective instructional strategies to enable students to meet secondary level content standards.
To ensure the acquisition of the rigor of reading/language arts and its conventions, participants will develop an understanding of writing genres, language and linguistics, the elements of a short story, narrative writing, literature and textual analysis, persuasive and expository text; writing for communications media, figurative language, and response to literature. Participants will apply their learning by writing a comprehensive, standards-based English/Language Arts lesson plan.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension Credit

$250 UCLA Tuition Fee (This is in addition to the TeachStar Online tuition fee.)
During the 2nd week of your course, you may apply for UCLA Extension Credits through UCLA Extension. You must apply, either by mail or by phone, for the UCLA Extension Credits before the end date of your online course. If you choose to apply for credits after the end date of you will be charged a late fee. You have up to six months after the end date of your courses to apply for these credits. You will send your payment directly to UCLA Extension. Please note, that there will be no refunds from UCLA Extension if you change your mind. You must complete and pass the course to receive the credits.
