This Tier II course is designed to assist secondary teachers who are teaching multiple subjects in special setting Mathematics to meet NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher requirements. The online class is facilitated with an instructor over five weeks to build on the foundation of their content knowledge and repertoire of effective instructional strategies from Tier I. This course better enables students to meet secondary level content standards. Participants in the Tier II online professional development will demonstrate deeper conceptual knowledge of subject matter.
To ensure the acquisition of the rigor of mathematics, students will deepen their understanding in the math domains: Statistics, Data Analysis, Probability, Geometry/Trigonometry and Algebra II. The class includes direct instruction and hands-on applications through a virtual format. Interactions with participants and instructor are included in Discussion Board topics and Portfolio submissions. Participants will apply their learning by writing comprehensive standards-based math lesson plans.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension Credit

$250 UCLA Tuition Fee (This is in addition to the TeachStar Online tuition fee.)
During the 2nd week of your course, you may apply for UCLA Extension Credits through UCLA Extension. You must apply, either by mail or by phone, for the UCLA Extension Credits before the end date of your online course. If you choose to apply for credits after the end date of you will be charged a late fee. You have up to six months after the end date of your courses to apply for these credits. You will send your payment directly to UCLA Extension. Please note, that there will be no refunds from UCLA Extension if you change your mind. You must complete and pass the course to receive the credits.
