This Verification Process for Special Settings (VPSS) in Science online course aligns with the State academic content standards, student achievement standards and State assessments. Through this professional development, participants will demonstrate an understanding of the subject matter in the Science Content Standards for California Public Schools Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (Rev.2002)
To ensure the acquisition of the rigor of science and its application, participants will develop an understanding of astronomy, geodynamics, Earth resources, ecology, waves, forces, motion, electricity and magnetism, as well as an introduction to the structure and properties of matter and how elements are formed. Participants will apply their learning by writing a comprehensive, standards-based science lesson plan and an expository essay. Upon completion of this course, participants will be skilled and knowledgeable to proceed onto VPSS Science: Tier II professional development.
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension Credit

$250 UCLA Tuition Fee (This is in addition to the TeachStar Online tuition fee.)
During the 2nd week of your course, you may apply for UCLA Extension Credits through UCLA Extension. You must apply, either by mail or by phone, for the UCLA Extension Credits before the end date of your online course. If you choose to apply for credits after the end date of you will be charged a late fee. You have up to six months after the end date of your courses to apply for these credits. You will send your payment directly to UCLA Extension. Please note, that there will be no refunds from UCLA Extension if you change your mind. You must complete and pass the course to receive the credits.
